Technogym wins Rio Olympics supply contract

With two years to go to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Technogym has been selected as the official fitness equipment supplier for all athletic preparation centres.

It is the sixth Olympic partnership for Technogym following on from Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Turin 2006, Beijing 2008 and London 2012, and the fifth consecutive for the Summer Games. The company also recently served as the official fitness equipment provider for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

As part of the contract, Technogym will provide a full range of equipment for the approximately 2,000m2 main training centre in Rio at the Olympic Village in Barra da Tijuca. In total, it will equip 15 centres with warm up areas specifically designed for the different disciplines at the competition venues.

The company expects to supply 1,000 pieces of equipment overall and will install ‘Mywellness’ cloud digital platforms to enable athletes to connect directly to the equipment with their individual training programmes from a mobile device. Technogym will also provide a team of 50 professional athletic trainers to manage the preparation centres and support the athletes, in addition to related services such as gym layout, installation and technical services.

In announcing the contract win, Technogym president and founder Nerio Alessandri said the Games would also represent a “unique social opportunity to promote wellness in Brazil and across the whole of Latin America, helping to get increasing numbers of people interested in physical exercise”.
